Brno embankment
For the association OHLA ŽS, HOCHTIEF CZ and FIRESTA, in 2025 we delivered steel pier structures on the embankment of the Svratka river in Brno.

What exactly did we build?
About the project
Circular piers and footbridges bring the Brno embankment closer to people. The steel structures are part of the Svratka flood protection, stages VII and VIII.
- Atypical geometry: The largest SO 08.07 pier is approximately 10.4 x 11.5 m. The curved perimeter and radial grid required components of different dimensions and angles.
- Supporting structure: Steel S235JR in class EXC2, profiles HEA 260, IPE 180 and pipes RO 48.3×4. The anchoring was adjusted according to the actual focused reinforced concrete embankment, with M30 chemical anchors.
- Oak Deck: Planks 80/160 lie on an oak grid 50/160. The waterproofing film separates the wood from the steel and limits the retention of water in contact between the materials.
- Stainless steel connections: For steel, the connecting material is at least 70 / A2, for wooden parts A4, so that the wet environment does not leave corrosion marks on the deck.
- Double surface protection: Hot-dip galvanizing complements the top coat. Zinc protects the steel, the paint slows down its loss and determines the final color.
At the same time, the technical flood protection structure creates a place to stop and sit above the surface.
